Think seriously about whether you need to travel here due to the high level of risk. If you do travel, do your research and take a range of extra safety precautions, including having contingency plans. Check that your travel insurer will cover you.

 

The US Virgin Islands and the US territory of Puerto Rico sustained major damage from Hurricane Maria. Widespread flooding has been reported and large areas are without power and communication. Extended disruptions to essential services are expected. Hazardous weather conditions are forecast to continue over coming days, with authorities warning that continuing rainfall could cause further flooding and landslides. Continue to follow the advice of the local authorities and adhere to any curfews and evacuation orders. Airports in the region are currently closed to commercial traffic. Contact your airline or tour operator for further information. Reconsider your need to travel to the US Virgin Islands and the US territory of Puerto Rico. Overall exercise normal safety precautions in the United States of America, including Alaska and the Hawaiian Islands.
