Designated a World Heritage Site in 1979,
the Grand Canyon has been referred to as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. It is being formed even today by the Colorado River, which charted its course about 17 million years ago. Unique combinations of geologic colour and erosion based forms decorate a canyon that is 446 kilometres long, up to 29 kilometres wide and 1.6 kilometres deep. With nearly 5 million people travelling to the Grand Canyon National Park each year, visitors are encouraged to review the many options on how and where to access this magnificent canyon.
